The Acne Effect was founded in 2019 with the mission to raise awareness and educate the public about the impact that acne has on mental health.
Acne is not just a surface issue; it is often life-altering.
By engaging in much-needed conversations about the correlation between acne and mental health, we are helping those suffering from acne and acne scars to be seen and heard:
•We are saying that it’s okay to talk about our acne-related traumas, free from judgment.
•We are opening the conversation about how to support one another in order to heal and cope in healthy, beneficial ways.
•We are bringing light to an individual’s dark and lonely journey by saying “you are not alone” and “we are here with you” while you regain control of your emotions and your life after feeling like you didn’t have any control for so long.
•We are telling sufferers that they are worthy and deserving of the same opportunities as those without acne.
•We are telling them that they deserve to be happy and live fulfilling lives.
Agendas our mission does not push:
•We are not saying you have to love your acne or scars.
•We are not saying you shouldn’t find a treatment that works to get rid of your acne and scars.
•We are not saying you should accept and continue to live with acne-related traumas that never served you in the first place.
What our mission fights for:
•We fight for representation in the public eye because inclusion matters if we are going to change unhealthy and unrealistic societal standards about what is deemed beautiful and worthy.
•We fight for an end to acne stigma and stereotypes that perpetuate the negative impact that acne has on mental health.
•We fight for your emotional well-being throughout your journey of treating acne and/or acne scars.
Acne happens; losing yourself should not.
